Women in Afghanistan have been particularly supported through their work - the clinic has served over 65% female patients, while over 98% of the carpet weavers that benefit from business development programmes are women.

The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF) has supported Turquoise Mountain for many years, and has awarded more than £1m since 2018.

Turquoise Mountain works in Afghanistan, Myanmar and the Middle East to drive economic development whilst preserving unique cultures and traditions. Our current funding focuses on the charity’s work in Afghanistan, where it has continued to work at a particularly difficult time, building on 15 years of experience in the country with a team of 200 staff on the ground.

Our funding has enabled thousands of people to be supported through livelihood initiatives (vocational institute and business development), education (primary schools supporting over 200 children) and healthcare (through a clinic in Kabul’s old city).

Our funding has also supported the distribution of emergency food packages to artisan carpet weavers with whom Turquoise Mountain have worked for years. These families live in Bamiyan, a city set deep within Afghanistan’s central highlands where food insecurity is particularly severe.
