In celebration of World Environment Day and World Oceans Day this month, KCCF continues to support its partners to tackle plastic pollution and protect our oceans.

Through our funding partnerships, KCCF is supporting sustainable, regenerative environmental projects across the UK and internationally. These projects are contributing towards the global target of protecting at least 30% of the planet’s land and oceans by 2030.

Among the Fund’s key ocean-focused initiatives is its support for the Community of Arran Seabed Trust (COAST), a pioneering organization based on the Isle of Arran in Scotland.  COAST is widely recognized for establishing Scotland’s first No Take Zone in Lamlash Bay, a marine area where fishing and extraction are now prohibited to allow ecosystems to recover.  KCCF’s funding is helping COAST expand its marine protection work, share best practices in sustainable coastal management, and engage local communities in ocean stewardship.

KCCF is also providing funding to the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).  For 40 years, MCS have been the voice of the ocean in the UK and Overseas Territories, defending coastal habitats and species.  Funding from KCCF is supporting MCS to deliver marine citizen science, community engagement, and conservation activities, as well as tackling pollution and promoting sustainable fisheries.

The Fund is also championing the protection and restoration of global biodiversity through strategic funding partnerships with two leading conservation organisations – Plantlife and BirdLife International – both working to protect vital habitats and species around the world.

With the support of KCCF, Plantlife has been able to upscale efforts to protect and restore wild habitats, plants and fungi, enhancing our countryside, towns and cities, connecting people with nature. And our support to Birdlife is helping to secure a more robust future for some of the world’s most threatened tropical forests and its biodiversity while helping to lock up more carbon and creating new sustainable livelihoods for forest-dependent communities.

At community level, KCCF’s small grants programme continues to support impactful, local projects across the UK that foster environmental awareness and action.  In East London, the Fund is supporting ecoACTIVE and their delivery of the Hackney Buzzline project.  This urban biodiversity corridor focuses on creating meadows, gardens, and habitats while engaging the local community in environmental education and stewardship.

Collectively, KCCF and our partner charities are delivering real, lasting impact and change for people and the planet, ensuring that future generations inherit a sustainable future.
